Final Cut Pro

With our construction we used lots of hardware and software to create our main products. This involved us using complicated software such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier Pro. For editing we attempted to use all of these different softwares to find the right one for us.

Premier Pro
This was the original software that we tried as it was pre downloaded on the Macbooks and we had previous experience with it using it on our opening sequence. The drawbacks of this software are that is has only one layering tool so you can only overlap an image once. Other issues were the upload times on this software and the capacity of it for footage. 4k footage would not upload and 60fps footage took up a lot of memory
Final Cut Pro was the software we ended up using for our editing. This software allowed us to layer multiple times, have short length cuts and use advanced editing techniques such as slow motion and reverse shots easily. It also allowed us to enhance shots by using colour corrections and steadying tools. We could also easily upload 4K footage and use it without skipping. For example our field footage in the morning with the frost was filmed in 4K. This software was perfect for us as it was simple and allowed us to edit to all our abilities.
Premier pro allowed us to create cuts less than 0.2 seconds unlike iMovie. This would prove useful for the built up choruses and drops in the song. However Premier Pro was hard to edit with as there are not images of the footage at the bottom just image names. The format was also a very different and confusing to us compared to the basic and simple iMovie.

Technologies
For editing my Digipak and Digipak poster I used Photoshop on the Macbook computer. There is no other software that allows me to edit photos and text together as easily as Photoshop does. It allowed me to tint images, crop them to sizes and shapes such as the shape of a CD, colour match and add effects. The software allowed me to create an A4 template for my Digipak poster and also a square shaped template so I could craft all of my Digipak slides.
I have had practice on Photoshop in GCSE but this task was under a much tighter time restraint and needed to be high quality. I struggled with using more advance techniques on this software at first to create more advances designs.

The 3 main tools I used on Photoshop in construction were the selection tool, text tool and the gradient tool when creating my logo. The gradient tool was useful for a smooth transition between colours rather than solid edge. The text tool was vital for using all of my fonts from Dafont and it allowed me to large and position fonts on my work. The selection tool was useful for splitting images from backgrounds and selecting parts to colour or liquify.

When taking Photos for the Digipak tasks I did not use screenshots from my video as the quality and variation within the screenshots i could take were not to a professional standard. Instead I used a studio to take Photos with props from the video itself. For example in my back cover and front cover I used pictures from the same shoot. This provided synergy between my pieces as i am using the same props and colours.
Camera

We used a Canon dslr in connection with 3 flashing lights for the shoot. These together created the perfect light with no background colours making it black. I did this so that when using Photoshop I could easily add white text to the background and it would be clear for the audience.
